Early years

Values -> foundation

Marc Hill was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. At the age of 6, his family moved to Moorestown, New Jersey, which is when and where his father introduced to the game of tennis.

He was a member of the Bill Johnson Youth Tennis Program, a community-based and volunteer-run program in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. (Click here to learn more about this tennis hero). Young , eager and impressionable, he learned not only the skills and habits to make him a better tennis player, but also the critical core values necessary to become a better, more successful person.

The emphasis of the program was not to teach the intricate details of tennis technique and strategy, but instead to instill the values of hard work, discipline, dedication, goal setting and prioritizing. Excuses were never tolerated.

Drive -> Ranking

In addition to playing in the Bill Johnson Program, as well as many extra hours spent training with his father, Marc also worked day and night on his tennis and fitness, spending countless hours before and after school running and hitting against the backboard at a park a few miles from his home.

As a result, Marc reached the #1 ranking in all age divisions of the Middle States section. He played First Singles during all four years at Moorestown High School, leading his team to four straight group 2 state championships. He also reached the quarterfinals of the New Jersey state singles tournament three times, ultimately reaching #5 ranking in the state. He achieved a #1 ranking in South Jersey and finished his high school tennis career with a record of 119-21, all at #1 singles.

Marc then attended the College of New Jersey, where he posted an impressive career record of 84-19 at #1 singles. His best year was 1999-2000 when he won the Fall Rolex Regional tournament, which qualified him for nationals where he placed 5 th , only losing to the eventual champion. In that spring he qualified for NCAA’s and made the quarterfinals, and again lost to the eventual champion. He was a 2-time All-American with his highest ranking of #5 in the nation. Marc graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education/Exercise Science. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and soon to be a Certified Performance Nutrition Specialist.

PROFESSIONAL

Experience + insight -> Expertise

In 2004, Marc got his first exposure to high level professional coaching and made significant improvements in his game. He decided to compete on the Pro Circuit and did so from 2004-2006. He competed in professional tournaments all over the United States, as well as Mexico and Europe. In 2006 he reached an ITF Professional National Ranking of #168. Marc posted wins over some top ranked Division 1 collegiate players and few ATP ranked players as well.

Through his travels, Marc spent time with many top players and coaches from all different countries, and developed a very broad outlook on the game of tennis. When he retired from the circuit in 2006, Marc was mentored and coached by, Yussuf Hassan, formerly the head of ITF Coaches Commission, as well as coach of ITF World Junior Teams for 10 years that included players like Rios Lapenti, Gustavo Kuerten, Mahesh Bhupathi , the Black brothers (Wayne and Byron) , Cara Black and many others..

The invaluable time spent with great coaches and players on the tour, instilled in Marc a tremendous amount of knowledge and insight of different tactics, strategies, techniques and footwork patterns. The moment of Eureka was bittersweet: Marc was elated at gaining the knowledge of the intricacies of the game required for success, but, also realized that it was too late to incorporate all of those elements into his own game.

What may have been too late for him, was perfect timing for aspiring junior players who want to take their games to the highest level possible.

COACHING

commitment + Guidance -> Pinnacle

Marc began coaching in 1997, and did it part time in addition to playing competitively until he retired from the circuit in 2006. He then began to devote all of his time and effort to developing top junior, collegiate and professional players full time.

In the process, he has coached juniors as high as 3rd ranked in the nation, top 80 ITF, top 40 NCAA and top 220 WTA. His goal is for all of his students to reach their full and highest potential as players as well as human beings, and he incorporates the same values that made him the player he was into his coaching. Marc remains in touch with his mentor, and still avidly studies the game, always remaining open to learn ever more extensively and deeply the subject of one of his life’s greatest passion: Tennis. He is determined and will do whatever he can to help his students reach their full potential.
